Premier League top clubs drop points in heated title race 2024/25.

:Premier League action resumed from its FA weekend break with mid-week fixtures. Top seed Liverpool and defending champion Manchester City drop crucial points. From Chelsea’s stoppage time equalizer against Bournemouth to Brentford’s convincing comeback against Manchester City, the league continues to prove as to why its one of the best in Europe. In this article, we shall review the big team fixtures and impact of the results on title race.

Brentford vs Manchester City 2:2

Brentford hosted Manchester City in the Gtech Community Stadium on Tuesday 14th February, 2025 in a 2:2 full-time score. The result left many in shock as to whether the defending champions had fully recovered to their winning ways. This came following City’s 8:0 victory over Salford in the FA cup.

This result highlights concerns in City’s consistency as they aim to defend the Premier League Title. On the other hand; Brentford’s brilliant display set them up as big team nightmares on their way to top half positions. 

Title Contenders Liverpool Draw 1:1 with Nottingham Forest

The Reds continue dropping points following a 1:1 draw with Nottingham Forest in a tight contest. The Reds came from behind to secure a point in a night that could have gone either way. Both the home and away team created multiple opportunities but with shallow conversion rate. 

Nottingham Forest’s striker Chris Wood scored a left footed screamer 8 minutes into the game following an assist from Anthony Elanga to send the hosts in front at halftime. 66 minutes into the game, Liverpool substitute Diego Jota headed the ball to the back of the net following a corner earning the Reds a point.

 Liverpool now sit at 47 points on top of the Premier League, four-point gap with the Gunners in second position with 43 points. The point difference shallows with about 17 game weeks to go. Liverpool new manager Arne Slot continues his Liverpool no loss streak with only one loss since he joined the club in summer following Klopp’s departure.

Chelsea Vs Bournemouth ends 2-2 at fulltime whistle

The blue flag hovered over Stamford Bridge as Chelsea welcomed Bournemouth for a night of Premier League Action. The atmosphere was electric backed with an early opening goal from Cole Palmer 13 minutes into the game securing Chelsea a half-time lead. In the 50th minute Justine Kluivert converted a penalty following a table from Chelsea midfielder Moses Caicedo in penalty territory. The Cherries took the lead in the 68th minute from Antoine Semenyo’s power left shot. 

The hosts Chelsea equalised late in stoppage time through Right Back Reece James. He scored a free kick in the 5th stoppage time minute to secure a point for the Blues. 

The result leaves Chelsea in a tight position in the contest for domestic league victory; 6 points behind Liverpool. Bournemouth on the other hand keep up their good fights against top flight clubs and also boost the chances for European participation next season.

Westham win 3:2 against Fulham.

The Hammers under manager Garry Potter secured victory at the London Stadium in a 5-goal thriller on Tuesday night. West ham scored twice in the first half with a screamer from Carlos Soler after a defensive error in the 31st minute. Thomas Soucek scored the second two minutes later  following an assist from Aaron Wan Bisakka. 

The guests fought back in the second half. Alex Iwobi scored a brace with the first goal coming in the 51st minute followed by another in the 78th. Both strikers were set up by left back Antonne Robinson. In between Iwobi’s goals, Lucas Paqueta ensured the hosts maintained the lead with a goal in the 67th minute making the score 3:1 before Alex scored his second.

West Ham’s victory came at a time it was needed the most as the Hammers fight to get European Football spots for next year’s campaign.
